As Director of the internationally renowned vocal ensemble
VOCES8, Barnaby Smith is in demand as a conductor, choir trainer,
counter-tenor and arranger. With a schedule that takes him around
the world, Barnaby is highly regarded for his interpretation in the
Choral, Baroque, Classical and Film genres.

Recent repertoire highlights include Dove: The Passing of the Year;
Bach: Magnificat; Handel: Coronation Anthems and Giulio Cesare
and new commissions by Ola Gjeilo, Alexander Levine and Ben Parry.
Participants will work with Barnaby and a vocal ensemble that
includes professional singers from Apollo5 and the VOCES8

• for conductors who wish to gain further technical expertise and knowledge
• the workshop will cover interpretation, gesture, choral technique and rehearsal technique
• five participants
• each participant will have 40 minutes to work with Barnaby and the ensemble
• observer places
• final session of the day will look at introducing and rehearsing newly composed repertoire featuring shortlisted entrants from the VCM Foundation Composition Competition
